October 8, 1999 - Do you understand what 'Oval' means?

Well, with the exception of the plumbers, we've been happy with the other sub-contractors.  Until now.  Of course, when the plumbers are involved with anything, it seems to go wrong.  We finally got the Master Bathroom counter-top installed.  So the cabinet folks cut the holes for all the sinks.  We wanted oval sinks in all the bathrooms (that's 4 sinks - 2 in the Master Bathroom and 1 each in the other 2 bathrooms).  Our builder has frequently reminded the cabinet folks 'Oval sinks'.  But, the person who handles the ordering for the plumbers gave the cabinet folks the wrong list of plumbing items for the house.  Not a big deal, since the plumbers were waiting for other work to be completed and the fixutres to arrive before working.  (Of course, moving the drain in the Master Bathroom toilet so the tile contractor could finish never entered their tiny little minds.)  But the phrase 'Oval sinks' vanished from the brains of the cabinet folks when they read the plumbing specifications...

End result:  Round holes.  Problem:  Round holes are too big for oval sinks.  Solution #1:  Order new counter-tops for all three bathrooms.  Solution #2:  Special order a larger oval sink which will fit in the too-large round hole.  Answer:  Which ever solution will take the least amount of time.  Problem:  Person who handles ordering for the plumbers will not talk to our builder because she thinks our builder wants to yell at her.  *sigh*  Just look at the pictures...

My kitchen floor!  It's Nafco, a vinyl product.  The big advantage of Nafco is that the color goes through the tile.  If it gets scratched, you don't get an ugly white mark - the pattern is not marred.

It's not cheaper than regular ceramic tile.  But, it's easier on the feet and knees.  (I've had problems ever since we tiled the kitchen in our current house.)

More of the Nafco.  This is where it meets the Living Room carpet.  The flooring guy suggested the curve so we could have Nafco under the 'bar' area.
The low voltage guys have been busy too.  But they haven't installed the plate for my network hub yet...
The wonderful round holes in my Master Bathroom counter-top...
Close-up of round hole for the oval sink.  I think this is the guest bathroom.
Last time the electricians were installing the fixtures in the guest & girls' bathrooms, so I wanted to stay out of their way.  This is the fixture in one those bathrooms.  (Same one in both.)
The detail work in the Master Bathroom shower.  The accent tiles are the floor tiles.  I really like these tile guys.  They do good work.

The interest rate lock ends on October 13.  Without indoor plumbing, we cannot pass a final inspection.  So, we'll never close by the 13th.  Our lender is working with the home office trying to get us an extension.  The extension will either be for 2 weeks, free of charge, or we get to pay for another 30 day extension.  Of course, they may refuse to grant an extension.  Hopefully, we'll find out something soon.  (Yes, I'm getting even more stressed out...)
