October 16, 1999 - Dirt & Neighbors!

Time for the fill dirt.  Remember, most of it was first sitting on top of where the septic tank was supposed to go, then it got moved?  Well, the Landscaping crew have finally arrived.  And a fine crew they are.  According to our spies, they saw one of the guys on the Bushhog, in the dark, in the rain, trying to finish mowing the property.  The kind of crew we like!

We also met with the builder today to discuss where the driveway and sidewalk will be.  We used the time to point out other little problems...  Olivia was happy to run around the house with us, but Sarah spent her time over at the Vahles' playing computer games.  (Wonder who she takes after there, eh?)

We also have bad news for those of you who had briefly considered possibly buying the property behind us.  The current owners have begun construction.  This is a good thing since we'll have someone with whom to discuss fence-building issues in the near future.  (The builder they have selected is well known for completing houses very quickly.)

The start of the fill.  We need more dirt.

The barely visible orange flags mark the sidewalk.

The orange flags are a bit more visible here.  Notice how they curve around the corner of the house and meet up with what will be the garage apron.
Forgot to mention that the back-ordered lighting fixtures were delivered and installed.

First, be insanely jealous.  This is the remote controlled ceiling fan in the Master Bedroom.

Now, laugh insanely.  You can turn off the fan & light from the wall switch, but you can't turn even just the light on from the switch.  We plan to have a nice chat with the lighting supplier about how STUPID this is.

Ok.  You can be jealous again.  My stove venting microwave oven.

We're waiting on the gas guys to install the stove.

Once again, Joe and I went out on a limb.  Yes, it's wallpaper - on only half the wall.  This is the Dining Room.
The lighting fixture in the Breakfast Nook.  No, it's not polished brass - it's polished steel.  (Tough to tell from the picture...)
Not quite my back yard.  Distances are deceiving in the pictures.  But from my back porch you can see the start of construction on the lot behind us.

Another thing I forgot to mention.  We've resolved the transparent/tinted back porch vinyl issue.  The panels have been removed to have the vinyl replaced.  The cost was reasonable and Joe and our builder decided to split the amount down the middle.  Joe then asked me if I could accept that.  By then I was somewhat less angry about the whole issue and agreed that it was a good solution.  Especially since it avoids litigation...
