October 23, 1999 - Good news all around

Well, the best news of all is that the home office has decided to extend our interest rate lock until October 29, FREE OF CHARGE.  I believe this means that we must pass a final inspection by the 27th.  It looks like that can be done!

The plumbers finally moved the drain for the Master Bathroom toilet.  The tile guys should be out on Monday to lay the last two pieces of tile.  Gas guys are due out on Monday to install the stove & finish up.  Electrician will also be out on Monday to complete his work.

We talked with the Landscaper earlier in the week.  Because we have allowances for both in the contract, we have to have some landscaping and an irrigation system or our lender will not close.  (We had planned not to use much of either allowance to minimize our closing costs.)  We *strongly* emphasized that we will not go over the allowances for either.  He spent Thursday waiting on the concrete crew to place the forms so he could start the landscaping, but it rained so hard for 1 hour that morning, the concrete crew left.  Of course it was nice the rest of the day.

The lack of a driveway was not good for the carpet crew.  They prefer to use the driveway for cutting the carpet, as opposed to the street.  We suggested that they use the back porch.  Instead, they carpeted the back porch first.  We think they cut the carpet in the garage.

Joe went out Friday afternoon and reported that all the other crews inside were either barefoot or wearing socks...no shoes at all.  Wasn't that nice?

The concrete crew got the driveway & sidewalk poured yesterday.  Our spies reported an individual cutting the expansion joints this morning.  The driveway is a lot bigger than we expected...

In case you're wondering, Sarah is not over at the Vahles' playing computer games.  We dropped her off at a party and she spent the night at her friend's house.  Olivia is always happy to come over to the house & run around the posts in her bedroom closet.

Yes, that's a wallpaper border, to go with the wallpaper and "nice" light fixture in the Dining Room.  (And notice the chair rail?)
Forgot to mention that the electrician shut off the power at the breaker.  We figured he had a good reason, so we didn't turn it back on.

It's tough to tell but that's not a concrete floor on the back porch.  It's actually indoor-outdoor carpet.

Open mouth, insert foot, chew thoroughly.  A few days ago, in front of the painter I said "Doesn't look like much got done today".  Joe jumped all over me.  The painter had spent the better part of two days sinking & filling the nails used to affix the wood panelling on the back porch.  He did a great job too.  (Which I was sure to tell him...)  He did his best to find a putty that matched the wood color, but it changes from panel to panel.  It looks a lot better than bare nails and you can't see it from a distance.
Whooo!  Carpet.  It's a lot lighter than I thought, but the carpet foreman assured me that it's due to the carpet being rolled up for so long.  As the nap "revives" the color will darken.
The door from the Master Bedroom into the Master Bath.  Hey!  That is a well hung door.
My driveway!  From the garage looking out.  The problem was that tree to the left.  We wanted the driveway on the other side of the tree, but it just couldn't be done.
The sidewalk from the driveway to the front door.  We'll have some landscaping on the left and sod on the right.
Joe & Olivia meandering their way back to the Vahles' house directly ahead.  With the driveway having to go to the other side of the tree, our driveways will be rather close together.

Now it's finishing time.  The plasterers have touch-ups to do.  The painters are busy with mouldings and the bathrooms.  The Master Bathroom toilet is still undone, but scheduled.  The A/C was damaged and needs to be reinstalled.  The water pump has to be moved to the side of the house.  The landscaping has to fininshed.  Lots of folks working.  We are hoping to close on Friday, October 29...we'd better close by then.
